THE BEAUPORT BIRDS

Tucked away in a separate part of the Inn are the Beauport Birds.
It's just one more thing that makes the Beauport Inn special.

Ellen's passion for most of her life has been parrot rescue -- placing unwanted birds in good homes, and teaching people how to care for them. Some of those rescues ended up staying with us, and are now a permanent part of the Inn.

Linda had no prior experience with birds, but she quickly came to love them. "It's wonderful to go to their room in the morning and hear one of them say, 'I love you' or 'Gimme kiss'. It just makes your day. And their intelligence always amazes me."

One of our rescues is Snowy, an umbrella cockatoo  with a vocabulary of about 200 words. He's "Mr. Personality" and has appeared with Ellen at AARP meetings.  He loves being the center of attention.

Then there's Kramer, another umbrella cockatoo, who has the unique ability to jump as if she has springs on her feet. She had her minute of fame on "America's Funniest Home Videos" several years ago. Watch the video by clicking here. It will put a smile on your face, for sure!

One day Ellen was cleaning the water bowls and left Kramer (a female) and Snowy (male) alone for a few minutes. The result was a wonderful accident named Toby, the only one of our birds who wasn't a rescue. Linda took photos and put together an album of "Toby's First Year". It always amazes people to see how quickly she grew.

Charlie, a smaller sulphur-crested cockatoo, is so gentle even children can hold him. He loves being held, and having his picture taken. As you can see in the photos, our guests are enjoying themselves, too.

Stevie, named after singer Stevie Nicks, is a blue and gold macaw. She's the largest of our birds, and the most recent addition.

If you’d like, you can visit the Beauport Birds when you come to the Inn. More often than not we're told, "Seeing the Beauport Birds really made my day". Without a doubt, the birds enjoy when our guests visit them, too!
